Presidential Term Limits
How Long Can a President Serve?
In São Tomé and Príncipe, a President can only serve for a certain amount of time. This is called a "term limit." As of 2021, the country's Constitution says a President can serve for two terms. Each term lasts for five years.
This rule helps make sure that power is shared. The first President to follow these term limits was Miguel Trovoada in 2001.
