The prime minister of Gabon (French: Premier ministre de la République gabonaise) is the main leader of the government in Gabon. This person helps run the country day-to-day. They work closely with the President of Gabon, who is the head of the country.
The job of Prime Minister was first created in 1960. This was when Gabon became independent from France. However, the position was removed in 1961. It was brought back in 1975 and has been part of Gabon's government ever since. From 1961 to 1981, the President was the main leader of the government. Since 1981, the Prime Minister has held this role.
So far, thirteen different people have served as Prime Minister. This includes twelve men and one woman.

What the Prime Minister Does
The Prime Minister of Gabon has important duties. They are chosen by the President of the Republic.
The President can end the Prime Minister's time in office. This can happen if the Prime Minister resigns. It can also happen if the National Assembly (Gabon's parliament) votes against the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister can suggest other people to join the government. They can also suggest removing them from their jobs.
Sometimes, the Prime Minister can act for the President. This happens if the President gives them special permission for certain tasks.
After being chosen, the Prime Minister must present a plan to the National Assembly. This plan explains what the government will do. The National Assembly then votes to show if they trust the Prime Minister's plan. This vote must happen within 45 days.
The Prime Minister leads all the government's actions. They make sure that the country's laws are followed. They also have the power to make rules and appoint people to government jobs. The Prime Minister can also let other government members handle some of their duties.
If the Prime Minister cannot do their job, another government member takes over temporarily. This person is chosen by the President. They have all the powers of the Prime Minister during this time.
Any actions taken by the Prime Minister must be approved by the government members who will carry them out.
The Prime Minister is the head of the government in Gabon.
