The Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a very important person. They represent the Government of India in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Think of them as the main leader of this special area, which is called a union territory.

After India became independent in 1947, the President of India started choosing who would lead the islands. First, they were called Chief Commissioners, and later, Lieutenant Governors. The person holding this job right now is Devendra Kumar Joshi. His official home is called Raj Niwas, and it's in Port Blair.

The way the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were governed has changed over time. Different leaders held different titles, depending on the period.

Early Leaders: Superintendents (1858–1872)

Before India's independence, the islands had Superintendents. These were the first officials in charge of Port Blair.
