Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Imagine a country where many groups of people, called political parties, want to help run things. In Azerbaijan, there are lots of these parties. However, one party, the New Azerbaijan Party, is very strong and has most of the power. This means Azerbaijan is often called a "one-party dominant state."

Even though one party is very powerful, other parties, called "opposition parties," still exist. They try to offer different ideas and solutions for the country. As of 2022, there are 59 official political parties in Azerbaijan. Ten of these parties have members who work in the country's main law-making body, the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.
