The very tallest building in Albuquerque is the Albuquerque Plaza Office Tower. It has 22 floors and is 351 feet (107 meters) tall. It was finished in 1990. This building is also the tallest in the entire state of New Mexico. The third tallest building in Albuquerque is the Compass Bank Building. It was the tallest building in the city and state from 1966 until 1990.

History of Tall Buildings
Tall buildings in Albuquerque started with the First National Bank Building. It was built in 1922. Many people think it was the first skyscraper in New Mexico. This building is now a home for people and is called "The Bank Lofts." It is also listed as a special historical place.
Albuquerque had a big time of building new towers from the early 1960s to the early 1990s. During this time, 20 of the city's 26 tallest buildings were built. This includes the Albuquerque Plaza complex. Most of Albuquerque's tall buildings are in areas called Downtown or Uptown. But some tall buildings are in other parts of the city. For example, the Bank of the West Tower is the tallest building outside Downtown. Albuquerque has 36 tall buildings that are finished. This is more than any other city in New Mexico.
