List of waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park facts for kids
Yellowstone National Park is a super cool place, and it's home to tons of amazing waterfalls and cascades. There are at least 45 waterfalls that have names, and hundreds more that are still a secret! Some of these hidden falls are taller than 15 feet (4.6 m).
The tallest waterfall in the park is the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. It plunges down a whopping 308 feet (94 m)! That's like a 30-story building! Another incredible one is Silver Cord Cascade, which is 1,200 feet (370 m) tall. It looks like a long, thin ribbon of water.

Waterfalls in the Northwest
The northwest part of Yellowstone has many beautiful waterfalls. You can often see these falls from roads or hiking trails.
- Firehole Falls is 40 feet (12 m) tall and found on the Firehole River. It's a popular spot for swimming in the summer!
- Gibbon Falls drops 84 feet (26 m) on the Gibbon River. It's easy to see from the road and has a lovely viewing area.
- Osprey Falls is a tall one at 150 feet (46 m). It's on the Gardner River and requires a bit of a hike to reach.
- Undine Falls has two parts: an upper fall of 60 feet (18 m) and a lower fall of 38 feet (12 m). It's located on Lava Creek.
- Rustic Falls is 47 feet (14 m) high on Glen Creek. It's a pretty sight along the way to Mammoth Hot Springs.
- Virginia Cascades is a 60 feet (18 m) cascade on the Gibbon River. You can drive a one-way road right next to it.
- Wraith Falls is 100 feet (30 m) tall and flows down Lava Creek. It's a powerful waterfall that's fun to see.
Waterfalls in the Northeast
The northeast section of Yellowstone is also home to some famous and impressive waterfalls, including the mighty Yellowstone Falls.
- Crystal Falls is 129 feet (39 m) tall on Cascade Creek. It's a beautiful, multi-tiered waterfall.
- Silver Cord Cascade is one of the tallest waterfalls in the park, plunging 1,200 feet (370 m) down Surface Creek. It's a truly spectacular sight!
- Tower Fall is 132 feet (40 m) high on Tower Creek. It's named for the cool rock towers that stand next to it.
- Yellowstone Falls on the Yellowstone River is actually two main waterfalls:
- The Upper Falls is 109 feet (33 m) tall.
- The Lower Falls is the tallest in the park at 308 feet (94 m). It's one of the most famous and photographed waterfalls in the world!
Waterfalls in the Southwest
The southwest part of Yellowstone is known for its "Cascade Corner," where many rivers and streams create stunning waterfalls.
- Albright Falls is a tall 260 feet (79 m) waterfall on the Bechler River. It's a bit of a hike to get to, but worth it!
- Cave Falls is unique because it's 20 feet (6.1 m) tall and flows over a wide, cave-like ledge on Fall River.
- Colonnade Falls on the Bechler River has two parts: an Upper fall of 35 feet (11 m) and a Lower fall of 67 feet (20 m).
- Dunanda Falls is a beautiful 150 feet (46 m) waterfall on Boundary Creek. It's known for its nearby hot springs.
- Fairy Falls is a stunning 197 feet (60 m) waterfall on Fairy Creek. It's one of the most popular hikes in the park.
- Iris Falls is 45 feet (14 m) tall on the Bechler River. It's often seen along with other falls in the area.
- Kepler Cascades is a series of waterfalls on the Firehole River, dropping a total of 150 feet (46 m). It's very easy to access from the road.
- Lewis Falls is a 30 feet (9.1 m) waterfall on the Lewis River. It's a popular stop for visitors driving through the park.
- Moose Falls is a 30 feet (9.1 m) waterfall on Crawfish Creek. It's a quick and easy stop right off the main road.
- Mystic Falls is 70 feet (21 m) tall on the Little Firehole River. It's a great reward after a hike through the forest.
- Ouzel Falls plunges 230 feet (70 m) down Ouzel Creek. It's a powerful and impressive waterfall.
- Ragged Falls is 45 feet (14 m) tall on the Bechler River. It gets its name from the rugged rocks around it.
- Rainbow Falls is 55 feet (17 m) tall on Fall River. On sunny days, you might see a rainbow in its mist!
- Silver Scarf Falls is a tall 250 feet (76 m) waterfall on East Fork Boundary Creek. It looks like a silver scarf flowing down the mountain.
- Terraced Falls is 130 feet (40 m) tall on Fall River. It flows over several steps, creating a terraced look.
- Twister Falls is 55 feet (17 m) tall on the Bechler River. It's named for the way the water twists as it falls.
- Union Falls is a huge 250 feet (76 m) waterfall on Mountain Ash Creek. It's one of the most remote and rewarding waterfalls to visit.
Waterfalls in the Southeast
The southeast part of Yellowstone also has some beautiful, though perhaps less famous, waterfalls.
- Crecelius Cascade is 75 feet (23 m) tall and flows from Eleanor Lake.
