The Live Earth concert in Washington, D.C. was a special music event held on July 7, 2007. It took place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., USA. This concert was part of a much larger series of concerts happening all over the world on the same day. The main goal of Live Earth was to raise awareness about climate change and encourage people to take action to protect our planet.

This particular concert was held at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. It was a big challenge to organize, and the venue was only secured just hours before the show was set to begin!

Finding a Home for the Concert

The organizers of Live Earth, including former Vice President Al Gore, really wanted to have a concert in Washington, D.C. This city was their first choice for a major event. However, the main area of the National Mall was already booked.

Because of this, the main Live Earth concert for the U.S. was moved to New Jersey. But Al Gore made a surprise announcement just one day before the concerts. He said that a special concert would still happen in Washington, D.C. It would be held on the plaza of the Museum of the American Indian.

Al Gore thanked the American Indian people for helping to make the event possible. He said they came to the rescue when it seemed like the concert might not happen in D.C. Only the first 200 people who arrived could watch the concert directly at the museum. Others watched on a large screen, sometimes called a "JumboTron," outside the immediate viewing area. Because everything was organized so quickly, there were no working speakers to send sound to the JumboTron viewers.
