History of Livonia
How Livonia Started
Livonia was officially planned out in May 1859 by a person named Absalom Grogan. He designed the village with four main blocks, and each block had eight smaller sections called lots. Mr. Grogan also became the first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the local post office.
Moving the Post Office
After Absalom Grogan passed away, the post office was moved. It went to Joseph Martin's farm, which was about three miles north of the original village plan. Over time, the village itself slowly moved to be closer to the new post office. By 1888, the new Livonia had the post office, Martin's general store, and a blacksmith shop run by Dan Kelly. At that time, about fifteen people lived there.
Recent Changes to the Post Office
On July 26, 2011, the United States Postal Service announced a plan. They decided to permanently close the Livonia post office. This was part of a bigger plan to change how post offices work across the entire country.
