Lochau is a cool town in the western part of Austria. It's located in the state of Vorarlberg, right by Lake Constance. Lochau is also very close to the border with Germany.
More than half of Lochau (about 50.3%) is covered by forests. The famous Pfänder mountain, known for its great views, is partly in Lochau. To the west, the Leiblach river forms the border, separating Lochau from a part of Germany called Lindau.

Lochau's Past: A Brief History
For a long time, the powerful Habsburg family ruled this area, including Lochau. They governed their lands in Vorarlberg from different places like Tyrol.
Changes Over Time
Between 1805 and 1814, Lochau was part of Bavaria (a region in Germany). After that, it became part of Austria again. In 1861, Lochau officially joined the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.
Lochau During World War II
During World War II, a small camp linked to the Dachau concentration camp was located in Lochau. After the war, from 1945 to 1955, the town was part of the area controlled by France in Austria.

Getting Around: Transport in Lochau
Lochau has its own train station, called Lochau-Hörbranz railway station. This station also serves the nearby town of Hörbranz.
Train Services
The station is on Vorarlberg's main train line, which runs from north to south. You can catch the S1 regional train service of the Vorarlberg S-Bahn here. There's also a faster regional express train (REX 1) that stops at the station. Both services are run by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
