Lorenzo Taliaferro (born December 23, 1991 – died December 16, 2020) was an American professional football player. He was a talented running back in the National Football League (NFL). Lorenzo played college football at Lackawanna College and Coastal Carolina. The Baltimore Ravens picked him in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

College Football Journey
Lorenzo Taliaferro started his college football journey at Lackawanna College. He played there on a scholarship under Coach Mark Duda. Later, he earned a football scholarship to Coastal Carolina.
At Coastal Carolina, Lorenzo was a standout player. In 2013, he finished 11th in the voting for the Walter Payton Award. This award goes to the best offensive player in NCAA Division I FCS football. In 2014, he received more honors. He shared the SAAC Male Athlete of the Year award with Pedro Ribeiro. He was also voted the Big South Male Athlete of the Year.
Playing in the NFL
The Baltimore Ravens chose Lorenzo Taliaferro in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the 138th player picked overall.
Rookie Season Success
Lorenzo made his NFL debut on September 21, 2014. In a game against the Cleveland Browns, he rushed 18 times for 91 yards. He also scored his first NFL touchdown. Later that season, he had a game with two rushing touchdowns against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Unfortunately, his rookie season ended early. He was placed on injured reserve on December 16, 2014. He finished his first year with 282 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in 13 games. He also caught 8 passes for 114 yards.
Challenges and Injuries
Lorenzo returned for the 2015 season. He started as the third-string running back for the Ravens. However, a foot injury bothered him throughout the season. On October 14, 2015, he was placed on injured reserve again. This ended his season after only three games. He had 47 rushing yards and one touchdown in those games.
In 2016, Lorenzo faced more injury setbacks. He was placed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list at the start of the season. He was activated in October but placed on injured reserve again in December. He had very limited playing time that year.
Moving On
On September 1, 2017, the Ravens waived Lorenzo Taliaferro. This meant he was no longer part of the team. In 2018, he joined The Spring League, a developmental football league. Later that year, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He played as a defensive player during the preseason. However, he was released by the Tiger-Cats on June 6, 2018.
His Passing
Lorenzo Taliaferro passed away on December 16, 2020. He was 28 years old, just a week before his 29th birthday. He died of a heart attack in Williamsburg, Virginia.
