Louis Philippe, Crown Prince of Belgium (born 24 July 1833 – died 17 May 1834) was a young prince. He was the first child of King Leopold I, the first King of the Belgians. His mother was Louise of Orléans. Sadly, Prince Louis Philippe died when he was less than a year old. He was the heir to the Belgian throne, meaning he would have become king after his father. He might have been named after his grandfather, Louis Philippe I, who was the King of the French. Early Life of Prince Louis PhilippePrince Louis Philippe was born in Laeken, Belgium. As the first son of the new king, his birth was a very important event. When he was born, 101 cannon shots were fired in Brussels. This was a special way to announce the arrival of the new crown prince. The baby prince was also baptized at the Collegiate Church of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels. Death and BurialPrince Louis Philippe became ill and passed away on 17 May 1834. He was only nine months old. His father, King Leopold I, was very sad about his son's death. His funeral was held on 24 May 1834. He was first buried in the Mausoleum of the Dukes of Brabant. This was at the Collegiate Church of St. Michael and St. Gudula. Later, his body was moved to the Church of Our Lady of Laeken. This church did not exist when he died. His mother, Queen Louise, wanted to be buried near the royal home in Laeken. So, construction for the church began in 1854. This church now holds the royal crypt, which is where many members of the Belgian royal family are buried.
