Lovills Creek is a small river, about 17.24 miles (27.75 km) long. It flows into the Ararat River in Surry County, North Carolina. This creek is special because it's the only one named Lovills Creek in the whole United States!

Where Lovills Creek Starts and Ends

Lovills Creek begins its journey in Carroll County, Virginia. It starts near a place called Wards Gap, on the Pine Creek divide. This is a high point, about 2,615 feet (797 meters) above sea level.

From there, Lovills Creek flows south. It crosses into Surry County, North Carolina. Finally, it joins the Ararat River in the town of Mount Airy. At this point, the creek is about 975 feet (297 meters) above sea level.

The Land Around the Creek

The area that Lovills Creek drains is called its watershed. This watershed covers about 35.97 square miles (93.16 square kilometers). A watershed is like a big bowl where all the rain and snow eventually flow into one main river or creek.

This area gets a good amount of rain, about 49.9 inches (126.7 cm) each year. A large part of the watershed, about 57%, is covered by forests. These forests help keep the water clean and provide homes for many animals.
