Where Does the Lox Yeo Flow?

The Lox Yeo river travels through a special opening in the Mendip Hills. This gap is found between two hills: Crook Peak and Bleadon Hill.

Today, the M5 motorway also runs through this same gap. This shows how the river's path has been important for travel over time.

What Does "Lox Yeo" Mean?

This river was once known by a shorter name, simply the Lox. The name "Lox" comes from an ancient language called Celtic.

Experts believe the Celtic word means either "winding stream" or "bright one." Both descriptions fit a river that twists and turns, and often sparkles in the sunlight!
