About Lucas Neff's Early Life and Family

Lucas Neff was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1985. He grew up in a neighborhood called Andersonville. His mother, Meade Palidofsky, started a theater group called Storycatchers Theatre. His father, Alan, is a lawyer and writer. Lucas has both Irish and Jewish family backgrounds.

He went to Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and finished in 2004. Later, he earned a degree in Theater from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008. He actually started acting by accident! He was mistakenly put into the performing arts department at his university. After college, he took more acting classes at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. Lucas has a younger brother and now lives in Los Angeles, California. He was married to Australian actress Caitlin Stasey from 2016 to 2020.

Lucas Neff's Acting Journey

Lucas Neff started his acting career in Chicago. His first play was called Jon. To support himself while looking for acting jobs in plays and commercials, he cleaned houses. He was doing this just one week before he got his first big acting role!

His first TV appearance was a small part in the last episode of the show The Beast. Then, a big opportunity came up for the TV show Raising Hope. Lucas recorded his audition and sent it in. The show's creator, Greg Garcia, liked Lucas right away and wanted him for the main role of Jimmy Chance. Lucas still had to do many more auditions before he officially got the part.

Even with his TV success, Lucas kept working in theater. He wrote plays, including one called The Last Duck. This play was performed in Chicago and was even nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work.
