Lucy Filippini (Italian: Santa Lucia Filippini) was born on January 13, 1672, and died on March 25, 1732. She is known as a Catholic saint. Lucy founded a special group called the Pious Teachers. This group was dedicated to helping and educating young girls.

Early Life and Calling

Lucy Filippini was born in Corneto-Tarquinia. She was the youngest of five children. Sadly, her mother passed away before Lucy's first birthday. Six years later, her father also died. This meant Lucy became an orphan at a very young age.

When she was six, Lucy went to live with her aunt and uncle. They were from a noble family. They saw that Lucy was very religious. So, they sent her to be educated by the Benedictine nuns at Santa Lucia. This helped her grow in her faith.

Founding Schools for Girls

Lucy's important work began with the help of Cardinal Marcantonio Barbarigo. He asked her to start schools for young women. These schools were especially for girls who were poor. Lucy worked with Rose Venerini to train teachers for these new schools.

Together with Cardinal Barbarigo, she co-founded the Religious Teachers Filippini. This group focused on educating girls. In the town of Montefiascone, young ladies learned many useful skills. They were taught how to manage a home, weave, and embroider. They also learned to read and understand Christian teachings.

Over time, Cardinal Barbarigo created rules for Lucy and her followers. These rules guided them in their religious life. During Lucy's lifetime, an amazing 52 schools were opened! In 1707, Pope Clement XI invited Lucy to Rome. He wanted her to start schools there too. He put these schools under his special protection.

Later Life and Legacy

Lucy Filippini passed away on March 25, 1732, at the age of 60. She died from breast cancer in Montefiascone. She is buried in the Cathedral of Montefiascone.
