Luis Jan Piers Advíncula Castrillón, born on March 2, 1990, is a professional footballer from Peru. He is known for being a fast and attacking player. Luis usually plays as a right-back, which is a defender who also helps with attacks. He can also play as a right winger, which is a more attacking role. Currently, he plays for the Boca Juniors club in Argentina and is a key player for the Peruvian national team.
Playing for Clubs
Starting His Football Journey
Advíncula began his football career in the youth teams of Juan Aurich. He made his first professional appearance for the club in 2009. In January 2010, he moved to Sporting Cristal. He played 91 games for Sporting Cristal between 2010 and 2012.
Playing in Europe
In 2012, Luis Advíncula tried to move to a club in Ukraine called SC Tavriya Simferopol. However, the deal did not work out, and he returned to Sporting Cristal after only one month.
On January 5, 2013, Advíncula signed a four-year contract with a German club, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, which plays in the Bundesliga.
Loan to Ponte Preta
On July 10, 2013, Advíncula joined the Brazilian club Ponte Preta on a six-month loan. He was expected to be a main player there. However, he only played four games for the club. He was released from the club in October.
Loan to Vitória de Setúbal
Later, on August 19, 2014, he moved to Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal for a one-year loan.
Time at Rayo Vallecano
On July 29, 2018, Advíncula returned to Europe. He joined La Liga club Rayo Vallecano in Spain on a one-year loan. After a good season, Rayo Vallecano decided to buy him permanently.
Even though Rayo Vallecano was relegated from La Liga that season, Advíncula stayed with the team. On June 20, 2021, Rayo Vallecano was promoted back to the first division of La Liga. Advíncula was part of the team that achieved this promotion.
Joining Boca Juniors
In July 2021, Luis Advíncula moved to Boca Juniors, a famous club in Argentina. He quickly became an important player for them. In the 2023 Copa Libertadores final, he scored the only goal for Boca Juniors. However, his team lost the match 2–1 after extra time.
Playing for Peru
Youth and Senior Team Debut
Advíncula played for the Peru national under-20 football team in 2009. He made his first appearance for the senior Peruvian national team on September 4, 2010. This was in a friendly game against Canada.
World Cup Qualification
Luis Advíncula played a very important role in helping Peru qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This was Peru's first World Cup appearance since 1982. He played in the crucial playoff match against New Zealand on November 15, 2017. Peru won 2–0, securing their spot in the World Cup.
Playing in the World Cup
In May 2018, Advíncula was chosen to be part of Peru's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in all three group matches for Peru. Unfortunately, his team was knocked out of the tournament after the group stage.
First International Goal
On September 9, 2018, Advíncula scored his first goal for the national team. This happened in a friendly game against Germany, which Peru lost 2–1.
Retirement from International Football
On June 13, 2022, Luis Advíncula announced his retirement from international football. This decision came after Peru lost a World Cup playoff match against Australia. He was 32 years old at the time.
