Luis César Alvarado Martínez (born January 15, 1949 – died March 20, 2001) was a baseball player from Puerto Rico. He played as an infielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). From 1968 to 1977, he played for several teams. These included the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, and Detroit Tigers. Luis Alvarado batted and threw with his right hand.

Luis Alvarado's Baseball Journey

Luis Alvarado was nicknamed "Pimba." He started his MLB career with the Boston Red Sox in 1968. In 1969, he played in a minor league called Triple-A. He was a star player for the Louisville Colonels. He led the International League in runs (89) and hits (166). Because of his great performance, he won the Most Valuable Player award that year. After this success, he returned to the Red Sox.

Luis Alvarado often played as a shortstop or second base. In 1970, he played 59 games for Boston. Later that year, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. His best season was in 1972. That year, he had his highest numbers in runs (30), hits (57), and doubles (14). He also played in 103 games, which was his career high.

From 1974 to 1977, Luis Alvarado played for several different MLB teams. These included the Cardinals, Indians, Mets, and Tigers. He also played for teams in the Mexican League from 1979 to 1981. In his nine seasons in MLB, he had a batting average of .214. He hit five home runs and had 84 runs batted in (RBIs) in 463 games.

Luis Alvarado passed away in his hometown of Lajas, Puerto Rico. He was 52 years old when he died on March 20, 2001.
