Luis Amaranto Perea Mosquera (born January 30, 1979) is a former football player from Colombia. He is currently an assistant manager for the Colombian national team.
Perea was known for being a strong defender. He had amazing speed and energy. He could play as a central defender or on the right side of the field.
He spent most of his career playing for Atlético Madrid in Spain. He played 314 games for them over eight seasons. Later, he played for Cruz Azul in Mexico. Perea also played 72 games for the Colombia national team over more than ten years.

Playing Career
Luis Perea was born in Turbo, Colombia. He started his professional football journey with Independiente Medellín in Colombia. In 2003, he moved to Argentina to play for Boca Juniors.
With Boca Juniors, Perea won the important Intercontinental Cup in 2003. This was a big achievement early in his career.
Time at Atlético Madrid
In June 2004, Perea joined Atlético Madrid in Spain. He quickly became a key player for the team. He helped Atlético Madrid return to the UEFA Champions League in 2008 after 12 years.
Perea played many games for Atlético Madrid. He even became the foreign player with the most appearances for the club. He played 289 games, passing an Argentine player named Jorge Griffa.
He also helped Atlético Madrid win the UEFA Europa League twice, in 2010 and 2012. He left the club in 2012 when he was 33 years old.
Moving to Mexico
After leaving Atlético Madrid, Perea joined Cruz Azul in Mexico in June 2012. He continued to win trophies there. He helped Cruz Azul win the Copa MX in 2013.
He also won the CONCACAF Champions League in 2014. This is a major tournament for clubs in North and Central America. Perea stopped playing football in December 2015 due to an injury. He then decided to become a coach.
International Career
Perea started playing for the Colombian national team in November 2002. His first game was a friendly match against Honduras.
He played in important tournaments like the 2007 Copa América and the 2011 Copa América. Perea was even named captain of the team for a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Bolivia. Colombia won that game 2-1, which was their first win ever in Bolivia.
Perea played for his country for 12 years. In June 2022, he joined the national team's coaching staff.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Luis Perea started his coaching journey. He worked with Atlético Madrid's youth academy for a short time.
In August 2018, Perea became the head coach of Leones F.C. in Colombia. He later resigned from that role in May 2019. He then joined Atlético Junior as an assistant coach in 2020, and later became their head coach. Since 2022, he has been an assistant coach for the Colombian national team.
