Where is Lula Located?
Lula is found near the northern edge of Coahoma County. Important roads like U.S. Route 49 and U.S. Route 61 are close by. Route 49 goes northwest about 10 miles (16 km) to Helena, Arkansas. Route 61 goes north about 18 miles (29 km) to Tunica.
If you head south, these two highways join up. They lead to Clarksdale, which is the main town and government center of Coahoma County. Clarksdale is about 20 miles (32 km) south of Lula. The town of Lula covers an area of about 0.4 square miles (1.0 square km), and it's all land.
Tornado in 2011
On April 26, 2011, a powerful storm system called the 2011 Super Outbreak caused a tornado to pass through the area. This tornado traveled from Elaine, Arkansas, all the way to Lula. It was rated as an EF0 tornado. This means its winds were estimated to be around 75 miles per hour (121 km/h).
The tornado created a path of damage about 200 yards (180 meters) wide. It traveled for 21.5 miles (34.6 km) along Highway 61. One of the things it damaged was a church near Lula, where it ripped off the roof.
