Lynda Bird Johnson Robb (born March 19, 1944) is the older daughter of Lyndon B. Johnson, who was the 36th U.S. President. Her mother was Lady Bird Johnson, a former First Lady.
Lynda Bird Johnson Robb has held important roles. She was the chairwoman of Reading is Fundamental, which is the biggest children's reading organization in the United States. She also led the President's Advisory Committee for Women. She worked as a magazine editor. From 1982 to 1986, she was the First Lady of Virginia. Before that, she was the Second Lady of Virginia from 1978 to 1982. She is currently the oldest living child of a U.S. president.

Her Early Life and Name
Lynda Bird Johnson was born on March 19, 1944, in Washington, D.C.. Her mother, Lady Bird Johnson, had faced challenges having children. Because of this, her father, Lyndon B. Johnson, suggested naming her "Lynda Bird" to honor both her parents.
Dating and Marriage
Before her marriage, Lynda Bird Johnson dated actor George Hamilton. During this time, she received protection from the United States Secret Service. This was a new step taken to protect presidential family members after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Later, she married Charles S. Robb. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Captain. Their wedding took place in the East Room of the White House in 1967. Charles Robb served in Vietnam. He later became a well-known politician. He was elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia (1978–1982), then Governor of Virginia (1982–1986), and finally a U.S. Senator from Virginia (1989–2001).
Public Service and Education
In 1979, President Jimmy Carter chose Lynda Bird Johnson Robb to lead the President's Advisory Committee for Women. This group worked to help women achieve equality in many areas of American life.
From 1996 to 2001, Robb was the chairwoman of Reading is Fundamental. This is the largest organization in the U.S. dedicated to helping children learn to read. She still supports the organization as Chairwoman Emerita. She also worked as an editor for Ladies Home Journal magazine. She is on the board of directors for the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
Lynda Bird Johnson Robb went to the National Cathedral School for Girls. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She also briefly attended Mercy College. She has received honorary degrees and many awards for her public service.
Family Life
Lynda Bird Johnson Robb has three daughters: Lucinda Desha Robb (born 1968), Catherine Lewis Robb (born 1970), and Jennifer Wickliffe Robb (born 1978). She also has five grandchildren.
She has represented her family at important national events. For example, she attended the state funerals of Presidents Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H. W. Bush. She often represented her mother, Lady Bird Johnson, when her mother was unable to attend due to health reasons.
