Maclin Cody, born on August 8, 1972, is a former American football player. He was a wide receiver, which means he caught passes during games. He played for teams in the National Football League (NFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the Arena Football League (AFL).
He played for the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL for two seasons. In the CFL, he played for teams like the Ottawa Rough Riders, Birmingham Barracudas, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Toronto Argonauts. He also played for the Orlando Predators in the AFL.
Early Life and College Football
Maclin Cody was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to Vashon High School in St. Louis.
Cody played college football for the Memphis State Tigers at Memphis State University. He played for three years, from 1991 to 1993. In 1991, he caught three passes. In 1992, he caught 11 passes for 242 yards and scored three touchdowns.
His best college year was 1993. He caught 50 passes for 606 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also returned 13 kicks for 429 yards, scoring one touchdown. His average of 33.0 yards per kick return was the highest among independent teams that year.
Maclin Cody's Professional Football Career
After college, Maclin Cody started his professional football journey. He played for many different teams in various leagues.
Playing in the CFL and NFL (1994)
In May 1994, Cody signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL. Later that year, he joined the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. He was with the Colts for a short time before being released.
In September 1994, Cody signed with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the CFL. He played in two games for them. He caught one pass and returned many kickoffs and punts.
Time with the Birmingham Barracudas (1995)
Cody signed with the Birmingham Barracudas in the CFL in May 1995. He played in 15 games for them. He caught 31 passes for 452 yards and scored three touchdowns. He also returned many kickoffs and punts.
Leading the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1996)
In 1996, Cody was chosen by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a special draft. This happened after his previous team, the Barracudas, stopped playing. He had a fantastic year with the Tiger-Cats.
He started in all 17 games he played. He caught 80 passes for an amazing 1,426 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also returned many kickoffs and punts. In 1996, Maclin Cody led the entire CFL in receiving yards. He was named the Tiger-Cats' Most Outstanding Player and became a West Division All-Star.
Playing in the Arena Football League (1997)
In June 1997, Cody signed with the Orlando Predators in the Arena Football League (AFL). He played in five games for them. He caught 16 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned 19 kicks for 466 yards and scored three touchdowns. He even rushed once for a 38-yard touchdown!
Return to the CFL and NFL (1998-2000)
Cody signed with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes in May 1998. He played in 12 games, catching 33 passes for 479 yards and five touchdowns.
In February 1999, Cody signed with the St. Louis Rams of the NFL. He was later claimed by the Arizona Cardinals in September 1999. He played in 13 games for the Cardinals that year. He caught six passes for 60 yards and scored one touchdown. He also returned many punts and kicks.
In 2000, he played in 15 games for the Cardinals, starting one. He caught 17 passes for 212 yards. He also returned many punts and one kick. He was released by the Cardinals in February 2001.
Final Season with the Toronto Argonauts (2002)
Cody signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL in November 2002. He played in one game for them. He returned five kickoffs and three punts before being released later that month.
