History of the Club
Early Years and Promotions
The Maccabi Akhi Nazareth club started in 1968. For a few years, they played in a lower league called Liga Gimel. By 1975, they had moved up to a higher division. In 1998, the team achieved a big step by getting promoted to Liga Artzit, which was the second-highest football league in Israel at that time.
Reaching the Top League
The 2002–03 season was a very exciting time for the club. Under the leadership of coach Azmi Nassar, Maccabi Akhi Nazareth won the Liga Leumit title. This win meant they were promoted to the Israeli Premier League for the first time ever! This was a special moment because another Israeli Arab club, Bnei Sakhnin, was also promoted. It was the first time two Arab clubs played in Israel's top football division.
Ups and Downs
Playing in the top league was tough. In their first season, 2003–04, the team finished last and went back down to Liga Leumit. The next season, they were relegated again, falling back to the third division. However, they quickly bounced back! In 2005–06, they finished second in Liga Artzit and returned to Liga Leumit.
In the 2008–09 season, Maccabi Akhi Nazareth was promoted to the Israeli Premier League once more. But again, they had a difficult season. They finished last and were relegated back to Liga Leumit for the 2010–11 season.
Cup Success
The club had a great run in the 2014–15 Israel State Cup. This was a big competition for them. They made it all the way to the semi-finals for the first time in their history. On their way, they beat strong teams like Maccabi Netanya, FC Ashdod, and Hapoel Kfar Saba. In the semi-finals, they played against Maccabi Tel Aviv at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. Maccabi Tel Aviv won the match 3–0 and went on to win the cup that year.
