Mach GoGoGo (マッハGoGoGo), also known as New Mach GoGoGo (新・マッハGoGoGo), is a cool Japanese animated TV show from 1997. It's a new version of the classic 1967 series, which many people in the U.S. know as Speed Racer. The same company, Tatsunoko Productions, made both shows.

This exciting series first aired in Japan on TV Tokyo in 1997. It had 34 episodes, even though they originally planned for 52. Later, in 2002, an English version called Speed Racer X was shown in the United States on Nickelodeon. In 2017, the show was released on Blu-ray in Japan. Funimation also released the series with English subtitles, calling it Mach Go Go Go: Restart.

What's Different in This Version?

This 1997 version of Mach GoGoGo has some interesting changes from the original story.

Characters and Family

In this series, Speed's older brother, Rex Racer, doesn't just run away. Instead, he's thought to have passed away after a car accident while testing the amazing Mach 5 car. Their dad, Pops, then rebuilds the Mach 5. He adds a special "Safety Seven" system with seven cool features to keep the driver safe. These features are marked A through G on the steering wheel.

Speed, Rex's younger brother, decides to become a racer like Rex. Trixie, who was Speed's girlfriend in the original, is a reporter in this show. She becomes good friends with Speed. Her younger brother, Spritle, is also part of the team.

Some character names are different in the Japanese version. For example, Speed's Japanese name is Go Hibiki. Mai Kazami is like the new Trixie, and her younger brother Wataru is like the new Spritle. Pops is still Daisuke, but Mom Racer is now Misuzu. A baby gorilla named Rocky joins the group in Episode 20. He's similar to Chim-Chim from the original. Pops' mechanic friend, Sabu, is replaced by a character named Takumi. Even with these changes, the English dub still uses the familiar names from the original Speed Racer.

Storylines and Adventures

The first 21 episodes of the series tell one big story. They focus on the Earth Grand Prix, a huge racing event, and everything that happens before it.

After that, the next 13 episodes start a brand new adventure: time traveling! When the Mach 5 goes super fast, hitting 555 kilometers per hour, it sends Speed and his friends far into the future. They land in the year 2555, where a blue-skinned alien named Handler rules the world. Handler wants to use a powerful device called the Ezekiel Wheel to control time itself. Speed and his friends must try to stop him!
