Macomb Township is a busy community located in Macomb County, Michigan, in the United States. It's a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 91,663 people lived here. This makes it the most populated civil township in Michigan! It's also the third largest township overall in the state.

History of Macomb Township
The first people to settle in Macomb Township arrived in the early 1800s. They were looking for flat, rich farmland near the Clinton River. Many of these early settlers came from Germany, and you can still see German influences in the area today. The Township of Macomb was officially created on March 7, 1834.
The township was named after General Alexander Macomb. He was a hero from the War of 1812. His family was very successful in business and owned a lot of land in Macomb County at one time.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Macomb Township was a big part of the lumber and logging industry in southeast Michigan. Logs were floated down the Middle Branch of the Clinton River from Wolcott Mill in Ray Township to sawmills. Romeo Plank Road is an old route that runs along the western side of the river.
Macomb Township grew a lot between 2000 and 2008. Its population increased by 48% during that time!
Where is Macomb Township?
Macomb Township is right in the middle of Macomb County. Mount Clemens, which is the main city of the county, is about 7 miles (11 km) south. Downtown Detroit is about 26 miles (42 km) to the south-southwest.
The township covers a total area of about 36.35 square miles (94.15 square kilometers). Most of this area, 36.25 square miles (93.89 square kilometers), is land. Only a small part, about 0.09 square miles (0.23 square kilometers), is water.
Local Communities in Macomb Township
Macomb Township includes a few smaller communities:
- Macomb (also known as Macomb Corners) is in the northwest part of the township. You can find it on Romeo Plank Road at 25 Mile Road, close to the Middle Branch of the Clinton River.
- Meade is in the northeast part of the township. It's on the border with Ray Township at 26 Mile Road and North Avenue.
- Waldenburg is in the central part of the township. It's a few miles south of Macomb on Romeo Plank Road and the Clinton River, mainly around the 22 Mile Road area.

There were also people of Native American, Pacific Islander, and other backgrounds. About 3% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
In 2000, about 45% of households had children under 18 living with them. The average household had almost 3 people.

Students in Macomb Township attend public schools run by several different school districts. These include Chippewa Valley Schools, L'Anse Creuse Public Schools, New Haven Community Schools, and Utica Community Schools. For library services, residents can use the Clinton-Macomb Public Library district.
