The Macon Coliseum is a large building in Macon, Georgia, United States. It's a place where many different events happen. It's currently the home of the Macon Mayhem, a professional ice hockey team. This arena has also hosted other hockey teams like the Macon Whoopee (ECHL) and Macon Trax. It was also home to the Macon Knights arena football team. The Coliseum can hold about 7,182 people for hockey games and up to 9,252 for concerts.

Exciting History of the Macon Coliseum

The Macon Centreplex, which includes the Coliseum, was built in 1968. It was the first building of its kind and size in Georgia. Mayor Ronnie Thompson was a big supporter of building it. He was mayor from 1967 to 1975.

Famous Performers and Events

The Centreplex quickly became a top spot for sports, shows, and trade events in Central Georgia. Many famous musicians have performed here. Elvis Presley played several shows in the 1970s. Other legendary bands and artists like Led Zeppelin, the Allman Brothers Band, KISS, Van Halen, James Brown, Jackson 5, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Prince, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, and Elton John have also rocked the stage. R.E.M. even filmed part of their first concert movie, Tourfilm, here in 1989.

Wrestling Shows at the Coliseum

Professional wrestling has often visited the Centreplex. World Championship Wrestling (WCW) held many TV tapings and live shows here in the 1990s. One big event was Clash of the Champions XXI in 1992. WCW's main TV show, WCW Monday Nitro, was broadcast live from the Centreplex several times. These shows featured famous wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and Sting. One memorable episode in 1996 was the first two-hour Nitro and saw Scott Hall make his debut.

WWE (then called the World Wrestling Federation or "WWF") has also hosted events. In 1991, they taped The Main Event V here. This show announced that Hulk Hogan would face Sgt. Slaughter at WrestleMania VII. Their weekly show, Monday Night Raw, aired live from the Centreplex in 1995. WWE still holds live shows at the Centreplex about twice a year.

Impact Wrestling also taped episodes of their TV show, Impact Wrestling, at the Centreplex in 2011.

Political Rallies and Renovations

In 2015, Donald Trump held a nationally televised campaign rally at the Centreplex. This was during his first campaign for President of the United States.

The arena has been updated over the years. In 1996, major renovations added the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Centre. This new area hosts conventions, trade shows, and banquets. In 2003, three luxury suites were added. The outside of the Centreplex was also redone, adding a giant "M" at the main entrance.

Macon Coliseum in Movies

The Macon Coliseum has even appeared in movies! It was used to represent ice rinks in France and Norway for the film I, Tonya.
