MaggieMoo's Ice Cream and Treatery is a chain of ice cream shops. These shops are owned and run by different people, but they all use the MaggieMoo's name and recipes. They are famous for their delicious ice cream and other sweet treats.

The very first MaggieMoo's opened its doors in 1989 in Kansas City, Kansas. At one point, there were as many as 400 MaggieMoo's stores! Today, the company is part of a larger group called FAT Brands.

The Story of MaggieMoo's

MaggieMoo's was started by a couple named Juel and Katherine Tillery in Kansas City, Kansas. They wanted to open an ice cream shop.

How MaggieMoo's Got Its Name

The Tillerys were looking for a name for their new store. Their young daughter had a special name for a cow they saw every day on a nearby farm: "MaggieMoo." The Tillerys loved the name and decided to use it for their ice cream shop.

Growing the Business

Their first store was a big hit! Because it was so popular, the Tillerys decided to let other people open MaggieMoo's shops too. This is called a "franchise program." By 1996, there were about 90 MaggieMoo's stores, mostly in Kansas City and other nearby cities.

New Leadership and Growth

The company needed more money and experienced people to help it grow even bigger. So, the Tillerys sold MaggieMoo's to Richard Sharoff. He was very experienced in the food and franchise business.

Sharoff helped the company get the money it needed. He also moved the main office to Columbia, Maryland. He brought in a team of experts to make the brand stronger, improve the store designs, and make sure everything ran smoothly. They even worked with a cartoonist named Charlie Podrebarac to create the famous MaggieMoo cow character and logo. Under Sharoff's leadership, the number of MaggieMoo's stores grew very quickly. In 2003, they celebrated opening their 100th store in Phoenix, Arizona.

Changes in Ownership

Richard Sharoff sold his part of the company in 2003 to his business partner, Stuart Olsten. Later, in 2007, MaggieMoo's was sold to a company called NexCen Brands, Inc. Then, in 2010, another company called Global Franchise Group bought NexCen.

Joining FAT Brands

In 2021, Global Franchise Group, which owned MaggieMoo's, was bought by a large company called FAT Brands. FAT Brands owns many different restaurant chains around the world, like Round Table Pizza and Fatburger. After this big change, many MaggieMoo's locations became Marble Slab Creamery stores instead.

Helping the Community

MaggieMoo's is also known for its charity work. They do many good deeds using their friendly cow mascot, Miss Maggie Moo.

The company says that Miss Maggie Moo helps with many activities, such as:

  • Helping rescue animals with the Humane Society.
  • Raising money for people affected by natural disasters.
  • Walking to support finding a cure for serious illnesses.
  • Helping schools raise money for their programs.
