The Story of Marble Slab Creamery

Marble Slab Creamery started in 1983 in Houston, Texas. It was first called Cones & Cream. Two chefs, Sigmund Penn and Tom LePage, created it. They were inspired by another ice cream maker who mixed toppings into ice cream.

In 1986, Marble Slab became special. It was the first ice cream shop to use a frozen granite slab. This cold stone surface helps mix toppings right into the ice cream. Later that year, Ronnie Hankamer bought the company. He helped set up the idea of opening many Marble Slab stores as franchises.

Growing the Business

In the late 2000s, Marble Slab Creamery started to grow a lot. It expanded beyond its original area in the southeastern United States. The company became known as a very fast-growing franchise.

In 2007, it was even listed in Entrepreneur Magazine. It was recognized as one of the top franchises and fastest-growing businesses.

Who Owns Marble Slab?

Over the years, Marble Slab Creamery has had different owners. In 2007, a company called Global Franchise Group bought it. This made Marble Slab part of a group that also owned other dessert brands.

More recently, on June 28, 2021, Global Franchise Group announced a big change. It would be bought by FAT Brands. FAT Brands also owns other well-known restaurant chains like Fatburger. The deal was completed on July 22, 2021.

Delicious Treats

Marble Slab Creamery is famous for its homemade ice cream. They make their ice cream fresh in the stores. Customers can choose from many flavors and mix-in toppings.

Besides ice cream, the shops offer other yummy desserts. These include ice cream cakes, sundaes, and milkshakes. They also serve refreshing smoothies.
