Mahmud-i-Raqi is an important city in Afghanistan. It is the capital of Kapisa Province and the main town of the Mahmud Raqi District. About 50,490 people live here. The city is made up of four main areas. Mahmud-i-Raqi is considered an urban village. It is located northeast of Kabul, about 70 kilometers away. It is also 20 kilometers from Charikar.
On August 15, 2021, Mahmud-i-Raqi was taken over by Taliban fighters. This was part of a larger event where the Taliban gained control of many areas in Afghanistan. Mahmud-i-Raqi was the thirtieth provincial capital they captured during this time.
Climate and Weather
Mahmud-i-Raqi has a climate with hot summers and cold winters. This type of climate is called a humid continental climate. It means the city experiences clear differences between its seasons. The average temperature for the whole year is about 12.0°C (53.6°F).
