Major James Brooks Jones, born on July 9, 1953, is a retired American basketball player. He played professionally in the NBA and other leagues. Major Jones grew up in McGehee, Arkansas, and played college basketball for the Albany State Golden Rams.
Major Jones was chosen by two different basketball leagues. In 1974, the San Diego Conquistadors picked him for the American Basketball Association (ABA). Then, in the 1976 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers selected him for the National Basketball Association. Before joining the NBA, Jones played for the Allentown Jets in the Eastern Basketball Association (EBA) from 1976 to 1978. He was named the EBA Rookie of the Year in 1977. He also made the All-EBA Second Team in both 1977 and 1978.
