Malcolm started his college career at Pepperdine University. As a freshman, he scored about 12.5 points and grabbed 8.8 rebounds per game.

He then moved to San Diego City College. There, he was a star player, averaging 21.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks. He was even named co-Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his conference. Malcolm thought about joining the 2009 NBA draft early but decided to wait.

He then played two seasons for the San Diego State Aztecs. He was named to the All-MWC second team twice. In his senior year, he was also on the MWC All-Defensive team. This was because he was great at getting rebounds and blocked shots. His team made it to the "Sweet 16" round of the NCAA Tournament that season. Malcolm finished his college career as one of the best shot blockers and rebounders in his school's history.

Professional Basketball Career

Malcolm Thomas was not chosen in the 2011 NBA draft. However, he soon began his professional career.

Starting Out (2011–2012)

In 2011, Malcolm signed a contract to play for Mobis Phoebus in the Korean Basketball League. He played very well, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds. Even though he was doing great, the team wanted a more experienced player and released him. They still paid him for the rest of his contract.

Later in 2011, Malcolm joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA. He was also sent to their minor league team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He played his first NBA game with the San Antonio Spurs in January 2012. He also played for the Austin Toros and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He even reached the D-League finals with the D-Fenders.

In 2012, Malcolm signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv, a team in Israel. He played well in Europe, but his playing time decreased after the team signed another player. He left the team in February 2013.

In November 2013, Malcolm rejoined the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He also signed with the San Antonio Spurs again and played for their minor league team, the Austin Toros. In February 2014, he was named an All-Star in the NBA D-League.

In 2015, he played for the Piratas de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico. In 2015-16, he returned to the Los Angeles D-Fenders for a fourth time. He also briefly signed with the Meralco Bolts in the Philippines but was released due to an injury.
