Maldegem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɑldəɣɛm]) is a town in Belgium. It is located in the East Flanders province. Maldegem is a "municipality," which means it's like a local government area.

This area includes the main town of Maldegem. It also has smaller villages like Adegem and Middelburg. There are also two separate small communities called Kleit and Donk. As of January 1, 2018, about 23,689 people lived in Maldegem. The total area of Maldegem is about 94.64 square kilometers. This means there are about 250 people living in each square kilometer.

You can find the Stoomcentrum Maldegem in Maldegem. This is a special place for old steam trains. It is located at the former railway station.

Maldegem's History During World War II

Maldegem played a part in World War II. An airfield, which is like a small airport for military planes, was built near the town in 1939.

In 1940, the German army invaded Belgium. They took over the airfield in Maldegem. The German air force, called the Luftwaffe, used it for their planes.

Later, in September 1944, British forces took control of the airfield. They gave it a new name: "Advanced Landing Ground B-65." This shows how important the airfield was during the war.
