How Did Mallard Get Its Name?
Mallard started around 1882. This was when the Des Moines and Fort Dodge Railroad built its tracks through the area.
The president of the railroad loved to hunt. He noticed many mallard ducks living in the local ponds. So, he decided to name the new town "Mallard" after these birds.
