Malung-Sälen Municipality (Malung-Sälens kommun) is a special area in central Sweden. It is like a local government district. It is located in Dalarna County. The main town and administrative center is Malung.
The area was first called Malung Municipality. It was formed in 1971. This happened when the old Malung area joined with nearby places called Lima and Transtrand. In 2007, the Swedish government changed its name. It became Malung-Sälen Municipality on January 1, 2008. This double name is unique in Sweden. It helps promote Sälen, a famous skiing resort in the northern part of the municipality.
