Mamey is a neighborhood, called a barrio, in the town of Patillas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,380 people lived there. It is a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
History of Mamey
Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War in 1898. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that Mamey and a nearby area named Apeadero had a total of 1,249 people. The population of Mamey has changed over the years, as shown in the table below.
