Mansfield is a small town located in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 843 people lived there. The town's name is believed to come from a noble family in England.
Mansfield is in the middle of Cattaraugus County, just north of Little Valley.

History of Mansfield
People first started settling in the Mansfield area around 1817. The town of Mansfield was officially created in 1830. It was formed from a part of the nearby Town of Little Valley.
When it was first established, the town was called "Cecilius." However, its name was changed to "Mansfield" in 1831. Mansfield had its own post office by 1840. This post office later joined with the Little Valley post office before ZIP Codes were created in 1963.
Geography of Mansfield
Mansfield covers a total area of about 39.66 square miles (102.71 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny part being water.
Roads and Waterways
The town's main roads are county roads. Cattaraugus County Route 14 (Toad Hollow Road) runs through the town from south to north. Cattaraugus County Route 13 (Maples Road) goes from west to east in the northern part. Cattaraugus County Route 15 (Dublin Road) runs along the southern edge.
Two state routes also pass through small parts of Mansfield. New York State Route 242 crosses the southeast corner, and New York State Route 353 goes through a small section of the southwest corner.
Mansfield Creek flows through the northern part of the town. Little Valley Creek crosses the southwest corner. These two creeks flow in opposite directions, separated by a natural high point called the Saint Lawrence River Divide.

In 2000, there were 800 people living in Mansfield. The population density was about 20.2 people per square mile. Most of the people living in Mansfield were White (98.88%). A small number of residents were African American, Native American, or Asian.
About 33.8% of households in 2000 had children under 18 living with them. The average household had about 2.61 people. The median age in the town was 38 years old.
Many areas north of Five Points in Mansfield are used for farming. There are several farms in this area, including some owned by Amish families.

- Owen Vincent Coffin – He served as the 56th governor of Connecticut.
Communities and Places in Mansfield
- Dobbins Memorial State Forest – This is a state forest located in the southern part of the town. It's a natural area for outdoor activities.
- Eddyville – A small community in the northern part of Mansfield, found along County Road 14. The Mansfield town hall is in Eddyville. It's also home to the town's only active church, Solomon's Porch Ministries. Eddyville used to have the town's post office. In 2021, about 55 people lived in Eddyville.
- Eddyville Corners – This is where County Roads 13 and 14 meet. It's north of Eddyville and west of Maples. There's an old Baptist church here that is no longer used. A state-run fish stocking center on Mansfield Creek is also located at Eddyville Corners.
- Five Points – This spot is southwest of Eddyville, near the center of the town on County Road 14. A county-run landfill is located at Five Points.
- Maples – A community east of Eddyville, located on County Road 13. The Mansfield fire department and highway barns are found in Maples. About 60 people lived in Maples in 2021.
- Orlando – A small community near the eastern town line on County Road 13. It is mostly unpopulated.
