Early Life and Education

Manuel Arellano started his journey in economics in Spain. He earned his first university degree from the University of Barcelona in 1979.

He then moved to London to continue his studies. In 1982, he began studying Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics. He worked very hard and earned his Ph.D. in economics in 1985. A Ph.D. is the highest degree you can get in a field of study.

Career Highlights

After finishing his studies, Manuel Arellano began teaching and doing research. From 1985 to 1989, he worked at the University of Oxford as a research lecturer. He was also a research fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford during this time.

From 1989 to 1992, he returned to the London School of Economics. There, he taught economics to students. Since 1991, he has been a professor of Econometrics at CEMFI in Madrid, Spain. He continues to teach and research there today.
