Maoism facts for kids

Maoism is a set of ideas about how a country should be run. It was developed by a Chinese leader named Mao Zedong. It's a type of communism, which is a way of organizing society where everyone is supposed to be equal and the government controls most things.
Mao Zedong believed that farmers, called peasants, should lead a big change in government. This was different from other communist ideas that focused on factory workers. China started following Maoism when Mao became its leader in 1949.
This way of thinking made China different from other communist countries like the USSR and Cuba. After Mao died in 1976, China's ideas changed. Today, China's economy uses many ideas from capitalism, which is about free markets and businesses. But some people still call China a communist country.
