Maple Springs is a small community called a hamlet. It is located in the Town of Ellery in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. It sits about 1,312 feet (400 meters) above sea level.

This hamlet is found along the eastern side of Chautauqua Lake. It is located between the villages of Mayville and Bemus Point. A main road, New York State Route 430, goes right through Maple Springs. In 2010, about 110 people lived here. The postal code for Maple Springs is 14756.

History of Maple Springs

Maple Springs has a rich history, especially with its famous hotel.

The Whiteside Hotel

The historic Whiteside Hotel opened its doors in 1879. It was started by William Whiteside. This hotel was very popular because people could reach it easily. Guests could arrive by both steamboat (boats on the lake) and train.

The Whiteside Hotel was open for 105 years, making it a very important part of the community's past. The Bemus Point Historical Society recently recognized the hotel for its historical importance. When it first opened in 1879, a room for a week cost $8.00.

Midway State Park

Maple Springs is where you can find Midway State Park. This park is one of the oldest amusement parks in the entire country. It is known as a "trolley park." A trolley park was an amusement park built at the end of a trolley (streetcar) line. This made it easy for people to travel there for fun.

Midway State Park is the fifth-oldest remaining trolley park in the United States. It is also the fifteenth-oldest amusement park still open in the nation. Because of its long history, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This listing helps protect its historical value.
