High School Basketball Journey
When MarJon started high school, he moved from his hometown of Yakima, Washington, to Seattle. He wanted to play basketball at Nathan Hale High School under coach Brandon Roy. He also wanted to play against tougher teams. As a freshman, he was a reserve player on a very strong team. That team included future stars Michael Porter Jr. and Jontay Porter.
His Nathan Hale team had a perfect 29–0 record. They won the state championship and were ranked the No. 1 team in the country.
Moving Schools and Winning Titles
As a sophomore, Beauchamp moved to Garfield High School in Seattle. He joined his former coach Brandon Roy and teammate P. J. Fuller there. He won his second straight state championship with Garfield. The team also made it to the quarterfinals of the High School Nationals tournament.
For his junior year, Beauchamp transferred to Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. He moved within the school's boundaries, so he was allowed to play basketball right away. He led Rainier Beach to win their league and district titles. He was named the most valuable player of the Seattle 3A Metro League.
Beauchamp helped his team reach the state semifinals and finish fifth in the state tournament. He averaged 26 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists per game. He was recognized as one of the best players in Washington. For his senior year, he transferred to Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Arizona. After finishing his high school basketball, he went back to Yakima to graduate from Eisenhower High School.
Recruiting for College
After his freshman year, MarJon Beauchamp received offers from four top college basketball programs. These included the University of Washington. His strong play in amateur tournaments helped him become a highly rated recruit. By the end of high school, he was considered a four-star recruit by major scouting services. On August 1, 2019, he announced that he would not play college basketball right away.
College Basketball at Yakima Valley
After high school, Beauchamp trained to get ready for the 2021 NBA draft. He later decided to join the basketball team at Yakima Valley College in his hometown in March 2021. He had friends on the team, which helped him make this choice.
In his first college game on April 20, 2021, Beauchamp scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. On June 1, he had an amazing game, scoring a career-high 50 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. As a freshman, Beauchamp averaged 30.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game over 12 games. He led the Northwest Athletic Conference in scoring. He also helped the Yakima Valley Yaks win the Northwest Athletic Conference championship in 2022.
Many big universities like Washington, Oregon, and Texas Tech were interested in him. However, he decided not to go to a top-tier (Division I) university. This was due to concerns about his amateur status, which could affect his future professional career.
