Maravilla Este is a barrio, which is a type of local area or neighborhood, in the town of Las Marías, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 748 people lived in Maravilla Este. It is a quiet, rural area within the municipality.
A Look Back in Time
Puerto Rico used to be controlled by Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a U.S. territory.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. At that time, the areas of Maravilla Este, Maravilla Norte, and Maravilla Sur were counted together. They were just called "Maravilla." The total population for Maravilla and Las Marías Pueblo was 1,235 people.
