Marc Lamont Hill (born December 17, 1978) is an American professor, writer, and activist. He is known for his work as a television commentator. He teaches about education in cities at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.
Hill has hosted shows like UpFront on Al Jazeera English and VH1 Live! on VH1. He also works as a correspondent for BET News. In the past, he hosted Our World with Black Enterprise and HuffPost Live. He was also a political commentator for CNN and Fox News. In November 2018, Hill's role at CNN ended after he received criticism for comments he made at the United Nations.

Early Life and Education
Marc Lamont Hill was born and grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was 14, he met future NBA star Kobe Bryant at a basketball summer camp. They became close friends and stayed friends until Bryant's death in 2020.
After finishing high school at Carver High School, Hill went to Morehouse College. He later transferred to Temple University. There, he earned his bachelor's degree in education and Spanish in 2000. He then continued his studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both his master's degree and his Ph.D.

Marc Lamont Hill has had a varied career in education and media. From 2005 to 2009, he was a professor at Temple University. He taught about education in cities and American studies. In 2009, he joined Teachers College, Columbia University, as a professor of education.
He later taught at Morehouse College and then returned to Temple University. In August 2023, he moved to the CUNY Graduate Center. There, he continues to teach about education in urban areas.
Media Roles and Commentary
Hill has also had a significant career in television. From 2007 to 2009, he was a political contributor for Fox News. He appeared on shows like The O'Reilly Factor. Before that, he was a commentator on CNN and MSNBC.
In 2010, he became the host of Our World with Black Enterprise. In 2012, he joined Huffington Post as a host for HuffPost Live. More recently, in 2021, he became the host of UpFront on Al Jazeera English. He also became an anchor for Black News Tonight on the Black News Channel.
Marc Hill's Activism
Marc Lamont Hill is also well-known for his activism. He is a founding board member of My5th. This is a non-profit organization that teaches young people about their legal rights. In 2001, he started a project to help high school students improve their reading skills. This project uses hip-hop culture to make learning more engaging.
He also teaches adult literacy classes for people who left high school early. These classes are held in Philadelphia and Camden. Ebony magazine recognized him as one of America's top young Black leaders.
Supporting Youth and Justice
Hill works with African-American and Latino youth. He has spoken out in support of young people in legal cases. For example, he organized an online campaign to support Shaquanda Cotton. He also urged people to write letters about the case of Genarlow Wilson.
In 2013, an article he wrote for Ebony.com won an award. The article was called "Why Aren't We Fighting for CeCe McDonald?". This article won the GLAAD Media Award for "Outstanding Digital Journalism Article." Hill also expressed support for the Green Party in the 2016 US presidential election.
