Marcus Chang (Chinese: 張立昂) is a talented actor and singer from Taiwan. He was born on May 28, 1983. Marcus first started acting in the movie Café. Waiting. Love in 2014. He is well-known for his main roles in TV shows like Back to 1989 (2016), Behind Your Smile (2016-2017), and Lost Romance (2020).

Early Life and School

Marcus Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He has a younger brother named Jarvis. When Marcus was 13, he went to a boarding school in Auckland, New Zealand. He studied at St Peter's College.

In 2005, Marcus graduated from the University of Auckland. He earned a degree in Performing Arts, focusing on Popular Music. He also studied Audio Engineering at the SAE Institute in Auckland.

After finishing school in 2006, Marcus went back to Taiwan. He wanted to become a singer. In 2007, he joined a TV singing contest called One Million Star. From 2008 to 2009, he completed his mandatory military service. Later, in 2012, he appeared in some commercials. Marcus can speak both Mandarin and English very well.

Marcus Chang's Career

Acting Journey

After being in a few commercials, Marcus was noticed by a producer named Angie Chai. He then signed with her company, Star Ritz. In 2014, he made his first acting appearance in the movie Café. Waiting. Love. He played a mysterious character that the main actress, played by Vivian Sung, had a crush on. In 2015, he was cast in the TV show To the Dearest Intruder.

Marcus became very popular in 2016 with his first main role in the TV series Back to 1989. In this show, he played Chen Che, a man from 2016 who accidentally travels back in time to 1989. His acting made him famous in Taiwan. He also won the Best Potential Award at the 5th Sanlih Drama Awards. After this success, Marcus continued to star in other TV shows. These included Behind Your Smile (2016-2017) and Between (2018).

In 2019, Marcus appeared in the movie Nina Wu. He also had a small role in the TV series Let's Go Crazy on Live!.

In 2020, Marcus worked again with Vivian Sung in the romantic fantasy series Lost Romance. He played two different characters in this show. One was He Tianxing, a calm CEO in the real world. The other was Situ Aoran, a strong and charming CEO in a fictional romance novel. People praised his ability to play two very different roles. Lost Romance was named the "Most Popular Taiwanese Drama of the Year." Marcus and Vivian's great chemistry made the show even more popular. This role helped him gain more fans around the world. He also won the Asian Star Prize at the 16th Seoul International Drama Awards in 2021.

In 2021, Marcus had a surprise small role in the movie Till We Meet Again. He played a college "senior" to Vivian Sung's character.

In 2022, Marcus had a health challenge. He was in the hospital for 11 days because of a collapsed lung. He needed emergency treatment and time to recover. After getting better, he returned to acting in 2023 with the TV series Trick or Love [zh]. However, he later took another break due to a recurring lung issue. After fully recovering in 2024, Marcus attended a press conference in Tokyo, Japan. This was for his upcoming comedy mini-series A Controversial Entertainer [zh], which is expected in 2025.

Music Career

Besides acting, Marcus Chang also has a music career. He released his first music collection, called an extended play (EP), Zero (±1), on August 31, 2018. It was released by Sony Music Taiwan. This EP showed his two sides as an actor and a musician. His second EP, Oxymoron, came out on December 26, 2019. He has also performed two solo concerts in Taipei. Marcus has sung songs for the soundtracks of his TV shows. Some popular songs include "Lose to You," "Tonight I’m Here," and "Talk to Me" from Lost Romance.
