Marcus Daniel Cronin (born January 9, 1865 – died August 12, 1936) was an important U.S. Army officer. He served in several major conflicts. These included the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and World War I.

Early Life and Education
Marcus Daniel Cronin was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on January 9, 1865. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated from West Point in 1887.
Some of his classmates became famous generals. These included George Owen Squier, John J. Pershing, and Peyton C. March. Later, Cronin also studied at the United States Army War College. He finished his studies there in 1911.
Military Career Highlights
Cronin began his military career on January 12, 1887. He became a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. For six years, from 1887 to 1893, he served on the U.S. frontier.
After his time on the frontier, Cronin became a teacher. He taught at West Point from 1893 to 1897.
Serving in Major Wars
When the Spanish–American War started, Cronin joined the 25th Infantry. He served in the Santiago Campaign in Cuba in 1898. During this time, he also helped with health and sanitation efforts.
Later, Cronin served in the Philippine–American War. He was a Colonel in the United States Volunteers. From 1915 to 1917, he was an Assistant Chief of the Philippine Constabulary.
When the United States joined World War I, Cronin was promoted. On August 5, 1917, he became a Brigadier General. He commanded the 163rd Infantry Brigade at Camp Gordon. He also served in France as part of the American Expeditionary Force. Cronin retired from the army in 1925.
Personal Life and Later Years
Marcus Cronin married Helen Hannay on August 2, 1893. He lived in La Jolla, California, for some time. He passed away on August 12, 1936, in Governors Island, New York.
