Marcus Peter Stoinis is an Australian cricket player. He was born on August 16, 1989. He plays for the Australian national team in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Marcus was part of the teams that won the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
In Australia, he has played for teams like Western Australia and Victoria. He also plays for many Twenty20 teams around the world.

Early Life and Junior Cricket
Marcus Stoinis was born in Perth, Australia. His family has Greek roots. He started playing cricket at a young age. He represented Western Australia at the under-17 and under-19 levels.
In 2008, Marcus played for the Australian under-19 team. This was at the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The next year, he played for Australia in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament.
Playing for Clubs and T20 Teams
Marcus Stoinis began his senior career in Australia. He played for Western Australia in the 2008–09 Ford Ranger One Day Cup season. He also made his Sheffield Shield debut against Queensland.
He played club cricket for Scarborough in Western Australia. He also played for Northcote in Victoria. In 2012, he played in England for Peterborough Town Cricket Club. He even took a hat-trick in one match there.
In December 2012, Marcus joined the Perth Scorchers team. This was for the 2012–13 Big Bash League season. In 2013, he moved to play for Victoria. He later returned to Western Australia for the 2017–18 season.
Playing in the Indian Premier League
Stoinis has played for several teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was signed by the Delhi Daredevils in 2015. Then, the Kings XI Punjab bought him in 2016. On May 13, 2016, he had his best T20 bowling performance. He took 4 wickets for only 15 runs against the Mumbai Indians.
In 2019, he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later, he was bought by the Delhi Capitals for the 2020 Indian Premier League. In 2021, he continued to play for the Delhi Capitals.
Big Bash League Highlights
Marcus Stoinis became a key player for the Melbourne Stars. In 2018, he started opening the batting for them. He was the top run-scorer for the Stars in the 2018–19 Big Bash League season. He scored 533 runs and also took 14 wickets.
On January 12, 2020, Stoinis scored an amazing 147 runs from 79 balls. This was against the Sydney Sixers. It set a new record for the highest individual score in the Big Bash League. In December 2024, he was named captain of the Melbourne Stars.
Other T20 Leagues
Marcus Stoinis has also played in other T20 leagues around the world. In July 2020, he joined the Barbados Tridents for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League. In April 2022, he was bought by the Southern Brave for The Hundred in England. In March 2023, he was signed by the San Francisco Unicorns. This was for the first season of Major League Cricket in the United States.
International Cricket Career
Marcus Stoinis made his first international appearances in 2015. He played his first Twenty20 International match against England on August 31, 2015. His first One Day International match was also against England, on September 11, 2015.
On January 30, 2017, he played his second ODI against New Zealand. In that game, he took three wickets and scored 146 runs without being out. This was a record for an Australian batsman batting at number seven. Even though his team lost, Stoinis was named the best player of the match.
In March 2017, he was added to Australia's Test squad. This was for matches against India, but he did not play in any of them. He was also added to the Test squad in January 2019 for a series against Sri Lanka.
In April 2018, Cricket Australia gave him a national contract. This showed he was an important player for the country. In April 2019, he was chosen for Australia's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He played in the first four games but then got an injury.
In August 2021, Stoinis was part of Australia's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Australia went on to win this tournament. In May 2024, he was again named in Australia’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
