Margaux was once a small town, or commune, located in the Gironde department in southwestern France. It is part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
On January 1, 2017, Margaux joined with another nearby town, Cantenac. Together, they formed a new, larger commune called Margaux-Cantenac.
This area is famous for its wine. Margaux is found in the Haut Médoc wine region. It sits on the left bank of the Garonne estuary, which is where the Garonne River meets the sea. The town is located northwest of the big city of Bordeaux.
