Marián Vajda (born 24 March 1965) is a well-known tennis coach from Slovakia. He used to be a professional tennis player himself. Marián Vajda is most famous for coaching the tennis superstar Novak Djokovic for many years. Under his guidance, Djokovic won a huge number of titles, including 20 major Grand Slam tournaments.

Marián Vajda's Tennis Career

Marián Vajda was born in Považská Bystrica, which was then part of Czechoslovakia. He played tennis professionally and was even part of the Olympic team for Czechoslovakia. In 1992, he played in the Barcelona Olympic Games.

As a player, Vajda reached the third round of the French Open in 1991. He also won two singles titles during his career. His highest ranking as a singles player was World No. 34 in September 1987.

Coaching Successes

After his playing career, Marián Vajda became a highly successful tennis coach. He was the captain for both the Slovakia Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams. From 2001 to 2005, he coached Slovak tennis player Karol Kučera.

Coaching Novak Djokovic

Marián Vajda is best known for coaching Novak Djokovic. He coached Djokovic from 2006 to 2017, and then again from 2018 to 2022. During this time, Djokovic became one of the greatest tennis players ever.

Under Vajda's coaching, Djokovic won 85 singles titles. This includes 20 Grand Slam titles, which are the biggest tournaments in tennis. Vajda is considered the most successful coach in men's tennis history when it comes to Grand Slam wins.

For his amazing work with Djokovic, Vajda received awards for best coach from the Olympic Committee of Serbia in 2010 and 2011. He also won the ATP Coach of the Year award in 2018.

Other Coaching Roles

After his time with Djokovic, Vajda started coaching another Slovak player, Alex Molčan, in May 2022.
