Maria Vladimirovna Khoreva (Russian: Мария Владимировна Хорева) was born on July 3, 2000. She is a talented Russian ballet dancer. Since 2018, she has been a first soloist with the Mariinsky Ballet. This means she performs many important roles, just one step below the main dancers.
Early Life and Training
Maria Khoreva was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Before she started ballet, she spent seven years practicing rhythmic gymnastics. This sport combines gymnastics, dance, and using equipment like ribbons and balls.
Maria then joined the Vaganova Ballet Academy. This is a very famous ballet school. There, she was taught by Lyudmila Kovaleva, a well-known teacher who trained many amazing dancers. Maria was one of the few students in her class to graduate with an honors diploma, which means she did exceptionally well.
In her last year at the Academy, Maria performed in several ballets both in Russia and other countries. Some of her roles included:

Dancing with the Mariinsky Ballet
After finishing the Vaganova Academy in 2018, Maria Khoreva joined the Mariinsky Ballet. This is one of the world's leading ballet companies. Even before her first full season began, she performed a major role. She danced as Terpsichore in George Balanchine's Apollo, alongside a main dancer named Xander Parish.
In the fall of 2018, Maria took on more roles. She performed in Le Corsaire and Swan Lake. In October, she danced the main role in Paquita. This was very special because she had just graduated. By the end of that month, she was promoted from the group of dancers (called the corps de ballet) to first soloist. This was a very quick promotion!

Public Life and Achievements
Maria Khoreva is very popular on Instagram. Her account, @marachok, has over 500,000 followers. She shares her daily life as a dancer, first at the Vaganova Academy and now with the Mariinsky. She posts in both English and Russian.
Maria is also a spokesperson for the sportswear brand Nike, Inc. and an ambassador for Bloch dancewear. This means she helps promote their products.
In November 2020, Maria appeared on a Russian ballet TV show called Большой балет (Grand Ballet). She was partnered with Mariinsky principal dancer Vladimir Shklyarov. During the show, Maria received the first-ever perfect score for her performance from Paquita. She went on to win the entire competition in December 2020.
In December 2020, Maria Khoreva also published a book. It is called Teach Me Ballet: How to Educate Your Body.
