Mariana is a special type of neighborhood called a barrio in the town of Humacao, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,230 people lived there.
History of Mariana
Mariana, like all of Puerto Rico, has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened in 1898, as part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. From then on, Puerto Rico became a territory of the U.S.
A year later, in 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. They found that Mariana had 1,296 residents at that time.
