Marianne Cruz was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She is the youngest of three sisters. Her parents separated when she was a child.

When Marianne was 16, she started mountain climbing. She has even climbed Pico Duarte, which is the highest mountain in the West Indies. This mountain is located in the Dominican Republic. Winning Miss Continente Americano
After the 2007 national pageant, Marianne competed internationally. She participated in the Miss Continente Americano 2007 pageant. Marianne won this competition! She was crowned by Mia Taveras, who was also from the Dominican Republic. This was a special moment because it was the first time a Miss Continente Americano winner was crowned by someone from her own country.
Becoming Miss Dominican Republic 2008
Marianne decided to try for the Miss Dominican Republic title again. In 2008, at 22 years old, she won the crown. She received it from Massiel Taveras, who had won the year before. This victory meant Marianne would represent the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 2008.
Her Success at Miss Universe 2008
Marianne Cruz represented the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 2008. She did incredibly well, finishing as the 2nd Runner-Up. This was a very high achievement for her country. It was the third-highest placement for the Dominican Republic in Miss Universe history. Only Amelia Vega, who won Miss Universe 2003, and Ada de la Cruz, who was 1st Runner-Up in Miss Universe 2009, had placed higher. Marianne was also the second woman from the Dominican Republic to be 2nd Runner-Up. The first was Renata Soñé in 2005.
