Amelia Vega Polanco (born November 7, 1984) is a talented Dominican model, actress, author, and singer. She is also a beauty queen. When she was just 18 years old, she won the Miss Universe 2003 pageant. This made her the first person from the Dominican Republic to become Miss Universe. She was also the youngest winner since 1994.

Amelia Vega's Early Life
Amelia Vega was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Her birthday is November 7, 1984. Her father, Otto Miguel Vega Rasuk, is a doctor. Her mother, Patricia Amelia Polanco Álvarez, was one of the first women to become a pilot in the Dominican Republic. Her mother also represented their country in the Miss World pageant in 1980. Both of Amelia's parents are from Santiago de los Caballeros.
Becoming Miss Universe
After winning the title of Miss Dominican Republic, Amelia Vega went on to represent her country. She competed in the Miss Universe 2003 pageant. This big event took place in Panama City on June 3, 2003. Amelia made history by becoming the first person from the Dominican Republic to win the Miss Universe title. At that time, she was the youngest winner since 1994. She is also the tallest Miss Universe winner ever, standing at 6 feet 2 inches.
Amelia Vega's Music Career
Amelia Vega started her artistic journey early. She recorded her first music demo when she was 15. At the same age, she began performing in musicals in her hometown. Her first song, "Pasa Un Segundito," was released on iTunes on April 26, 2010. It quickly became a popular Latin song. A few months later, she released another song called "Smog," which was about the environment.
Amelia shared on her Twitter page that her full album, Agua Dulce, would come out on August 30, 2011. It was first available on iTunes. She promoted her music in many places. These included Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. In the Dominican Republic, she even opened a concert for famous singers Marc Anthony and Chayanne. On December 24, 2011, Amelia Vega married NBA basketball player Al Horford. They got married in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They had been dating for two years before their marriage. Amelia and Al have five children together. Their children's names are Ean, Alía, Ava, Nova, and Mila.
Amelia Vega is also related to the famous Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra. He has won a Grammy Award. Amelia went to and graduated from the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Santo Domingo. Interestingly, Amelia is the sixth woman in her family to have "Amelia" as either her first or middle name.
